Jail Annex Release Destinations

The Gaston County Inmate Inquiry is the local release source for the Annex. A populated Release Date confirms the end of that booking interval. It may describe a person going into the community, finishing one weekend segment, leaving for work under a court program, transferring to another custodian, or reaching the end of a federal work-release placement.

Those events require context. A weekender can be processed in and out over several weekends without completing the whole sentence. A county work-release participant can leave the building under a court-authorized schedule while remaining subject to the program. A sentenced federal work-release participant can leave the Annex while the Bureau of Prisons still controls the federal term. The booking history, court order, and correct state or federal record must agree before a movement is called a final community release.

If an Annex booking ends in a transfer to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, search NCDAC Offender Public Information for an active state-inmate record. That result means county custody ended while state confinement continued. A later NCDAC Actual Release Date and movement entry, not the earlier Annex date, confirm release from the state prison term.

Confirm Jail Annex Releases

The portal’s Housing Facility control can narrow candidates to the Annex, but the booking detail supplies the actual release proof. Leave the In Custody box unchecked because a historical Annex record may no longer appear in a current-custody-only search.

1. Search by booking or subject number when possible, or use the person’s full name.
2. Select the Annex housing filter only if the location is known.
3. Open every plausible booking, including each record marked as one of multiple bookings.
4. Compare Booking Date, Release Date, prisoner type, classification, and Booking Origin.
5. Read repeated intervals against the weekender or work-release court order.
6. Contact Jail Administration for an entry and release summary when the portal does not state the exact movement.

The date range on the search form filters Booking Date, not Release Date. Someone booked before the chosen range may have left during it. When several similar names appear, compare the subject number, date of birth, photograph, and booking origin before opening the history. Do not carry facts from one booking into another. That simple identity check is especially important when a person has repeated weekender intervals or both Main Jail and Annex entries.

Jail Annex Release Records

The Sheriff operates the Main Jail and Annex as parts of one detention system. The supported public contact is the Sheriff and jail line. No separate Annex records-counter hours, public release desk, or distinct records fee was located.

Use the county public-record request portal for an existing entry and release summary, release or commitment order, work-release record, pretrial-release agreement, or booking photograph. Provide the exact booking number and identify the Annex. Ask for the fee estimate and delivery choices because no fixed Annex copy fee or response time is posted.

Item 53 of the county-hosted Sheriff retention schedule lists these materials as inmate incarceration records and schedules destruction three years after release or transfer, subject to holds. The online inquiry has a separate current-year-plus-two-prior booking window. If the portal no longer displays an Annex history, a timely records request is stronger than assuming the custody never occurred.

Jail Annex Custody Profile

The official Sheriff detention page describes the Annex as a county component for male and female pretrial and convicted populations, weekend sentences, and court-ordered work release. It also participates in sentenced federal work release under a BOP contract. The building is not a federal prison.

These are facility characteristics, not live population or release totals. The Annex role produces booking patterns that can look unusual when viewed without the sentencing order. Multiple exits may be expected for a weekender, while a federal participant’s county history covers the local placement but not the final status of the federal sentence.

Annex Work-Release Charges

Gaston publishes program charges that should never be treated as a fee for ordinary release. State work-release participants pay a daily amount based on annual income. The Sheriff states a minimum of $18 and a maximum of $36 per day until completion. Federal work-release participants pay subsistence equal to 25% of gross wages per paycheck.

The difference reflects separate programs and authorities. It does not mean that each Annex detainee owes a gate fee, that payment proves release, or that a family must pay the amount to obtain a record. A bond, court obligation, or other account can be a separate issue. Confirm the applicable program with Jail Administration and the court or federal custodian.

Income-based charges can also change what a payment entry means. A work-release deduction documents program subsistence, not the exact moment of exit. The county booking still needs a Release Date, and a federal participant still needs the federal record checked. When requesting copies, name the desired work-release record separately from the entry and release summary so the custodian can identify the existing documents without compiling a new financial history.

Federal Annex Release Status

The federal contract creates a specific follow-up path. A federal participant’s departure from the Annex may mark completion of the physical work-release placement, movement to another federal setting, or final release from BOP custody. The county Release Date answers only when that Gaston booking ended.

A “RELEASED” BOP result speaks to BOP custody as displayed, but it does not erase a federal term of supervised release. By the same token, a county record that shows the Annex interval ending cannot supply the federal release date. Keep the two events on separate lines when dates differ. This avoids compressing a local facility exit and the end of a federal prison term into one unsupported claim.

Search the BOP Inmate Locator by register number when known, or use name and identity fields. A past release date with a released location indicates that BOP custody ended as displayed. A future date is projected and may change. BOP also warns that sentence-credit recalculations can affect dates. A federal court docket or BOP record should be paired with the Annex history instead of turning the county field into a claim about all federal custody.

Annex History Shapes Release Records

The Annex opened May 3, 1996, before the Main Jail opened on November 1, 1999. Its lasting weekender and work-release functions are the key local distinction. Searchers should not assume that all bookings from the two buildings follow the same custody pattern.

A weekender’s court order may require recurring weekend custody. One Release Date can close one interval while later intervals remain. A work-release record may show movement permitted by the program rather than an unrestricted release. By contrast, an ordinary Main Jail booking often has a more direct custody-to-release sequence. Facility, booking number, and court authority keep those records from being misread.

Read Annex Release Fields

The detail view can show Booking Number, Booking Date, Release Date, Scheduled Release Date, prisoner type, classification, housing facility, bond or bail totals, and Booking Origin. Other tables may add court events, charges, disposition, sentence dates, and sentence length. Each field has a limited role.

Release Date is the strongest online field for the end of an Annex interval. Scheduled Release Date is prospective. A bond row records a condition, not completed physical exit. A blank current-housing cell may reflect an old record. A court disposition explains legal authority but does not timestamp jail processing. When exact time or movement type matters, request the entry and release summary and compare it with the court order.

The Sheriff’s disclaimer warns that server information may be incomplete or incorrect and gives the written correction route. That warning does not make every record unusable.
