Search Gaston County Released Inmates

Gaston County released inmates may leave local custody, enter another agency's custody, or begin state supervision. A search for Gaston County released inmates therefore needs more than a current jail roster. The county booking record can confirm a local release, while state corrections records track prison discharge and supervision. Court files may explain the order behind the move. Gaston County released inmates can also be checked through notification and federal systems when those channels fit the custody involved. The key is to match the person, booking, facility, and dated release event.

Gaston County Release Records

A release ends one identified period of custody. It does not always mean the person went home. Gaston County Jail records may show release on bond, completion of a county sentence, a court-directed release, or a move to another custodian. The Main Jail also holds some federal pretrial detainees. The Annex handles weekend sentences and both state and federal work-release programs. Gaston Correctional Center is a state prison, so its discharge records belong to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, or NCDAC.

The decisive local fact is a populated Release Date in the matching booking. A missing current facility assignment, a bond amount, or a name that no longer appears as in custody is weaker evidence. Each answers a different question. The booking number ties the person to one jail stay; the Release Date says when that stay ended; a release summary, court order, or later custody record explains what followed.

Release
The end of a particular jail or prison custody event.
Discharge
Completion of a sentence or supervision status shown by the responsible agency.
Transfer
Movement from one custodian to another, without community release.
Time served
A term completed through time already credited or served.

Gaston County Inmate Release Types

The label attached to a Gaston County release controls the next check. Court authority and jail processing are separate. A dismissal or bond modification may authorize release, but the Gaston booking's actual date confirms local processing. State and federal transfers end the county placement while custody continues elsewhere.

Fields in Gaston Release Records

The Gaston Inmate Inquiry has both search-level and booking-level fields. Search results can show a photo, name, subject number, current-custody indicator, scheduled date, basic identifying details, multiple-bookings marker, and facility assignment. Open the record. The booking history is where the actual date appears, along with details needed to distinguish two bookings for the same person.

FieldWhat it shows
Subject NumberThe person's county system identifier.
Booking NumberOne distinct admission and custody episode.
Booking DateWhen that booking began, not when it ended.
Release DateThe actual end date recorded for that booking.
Scheduled Release DateA prospective date that can change and does not prove exit.
Prisoner Type and ClassificationHow the jail categorized the person during that stay.
Facility AssignmentMain or Annex placement when shown.
Bond and Court EventsFinancial conditions and legal events, not proof by themselves of physical release.

The official search screen shows why a careful Gaston County released inmate search starts with the custody box and identifiers. The source portal displays the live search controls.

Request Gaston County Release Records

Online history is not permanent. The legacy county landing says it includes the current year and two prior years. Gaston's retention schedule separately classifies entry and release summaries, arrest sheets, commitment and release orders, work-release files, and pretrial-release agreements as inmate incarceration records scheduled for destruction three years after release or transfer. A legal hold can affect that schedule, and online display time is not the same as underlying retention.

  1. Save the name as displayed, subject number, booking number, booking date, release date if present, and facility.
  2. Use the Gaston County public-record request portal or contact Jail Administration.
  3. Ask for an existing entry and release summary and the document showing the actual time and movement type. Name the exact booking.
  4. If needed, request the matching commitment or release order. Court copies instead belong with the Clerk.
  5. Ask for the fee estimate, format, and expected response timing before copies are made. No fixed Sheriff fee or turnaround was found.

Gaston Release Record Access Laws

North Carolina G.S. 132-1 broadly defines public records, including documents and photographs made or received in public business. G.S. 132-6 governs inspection and copying of nonexempt records. G.S. 132-6.2 does not require an agency to create a new compilation. A narrow request for an existing Gaston entry and release summary is therefore more precise than a demand for a custom report.

Access still has limits. Criminal-investigation material may fall under G.S. 132-1.4. Juvenile, medical, sealed, and expunged material can be restricted. North Carolina expunction can remove or seal state arrest, charge, and conviction records. If a court source remains visible after an expunction, the state Judicial Branch directs the person to the granting clerk. A missing online case, however, does not itself prove expunction or release.

Record limit: public search fields are a defined subset. They do not make every underlying jail, court, or prison file public.

Note: Request an existing record by name and booking number because North Carolina law does not require a custodian to create a new report.

Gaston Jail Release Statistics Context

Gaston County's 2022 to 2023 jail summary reports an average daily population of 609 for June 2023 and separates Main Jail and Annex census information. That number describes facility load on an average day. It is not an annual release count, a booking total, or average length of stay. It cannot be multiplied into a valid estimate of how many Gaston County inmates were released.

609June 2023 average daily jail population
3release facilities in the Gaston map

This distinction matters when a person tries to turn a current jail count into a release trend. Weekend processing at the Annex, multiple bookings, transfers, and differing lengths of stay all break that shortcut. Use actual booking-level Release Dates for a person or a requested agency dataset for aggregate analysis.

Correct a Gaston Release Record

The Sheriff's search disclaimer provides a direct correction route for inaccurate portal data. Send a written complaint to Jail Administrative Office, Gaston County Sheriff, P.O. Box 1578, Gastonia, NC 28053. Identify the disputed field, booking number, and supporting record. The county retention schedule also recognizes inmate personal-identification change records, so corrections are documented as administrative work rather than handled by the search vendor.

Charge documents come from the Gaston Clerk of Superior Court, not the jail search. A difference between the court history and jail record can be meaningful rather than erroneous: the court entry may show legal authority, while the jail date records when local processing ended.

Find Gaston County Released Inmates

Start with the custody believed to have ended. For an ordinary Gaston booking, the county inquiry is first. For Gaston Correctional Center, NCDAC is first. A state or federal transfer requires a second record because the Gaston release only proves the end of Gaston custody.

  1. Search Gaston Inmate Inquiry by exact booking or subject number when available. Otherwise use the name and leave In Custody unchecked.
  2. Open every plausible booking. Match identity, booking date, facility, and booking number, then locate the actual Release Date.
  3. Search NCDAC OPI if the person may have entered state prison or supervision. Compare offender number, status, movement, and actual date.
  4. Check Odyssey court events for the legal reason, and use VINE for custody notifications. Neither replaces the custodian's dated release record.
  5. For a federal path, reconcile the Gaston record with the federal docket, USMS records, or BOP Locator. Use ICE ODLS only for possible current immigration custody.
  6. If the trail remains unclear, call 704-869-6800 or request the entry and release summary.
Why a released inmate drops from the roster: the current-custody view answers who is held now. Historical Gaston bookings remain searchable only when the current-custody filter is cleared.

Note: Disappearance from a search is weaker evidence than a dated release field matched to the correct person, booking, and custodian.

Gaston County Recent Release Search

Gaston County does not publish a distinct official recent-release, 24-hour, or 72-hour feed identified in the Sheriff site, new inquiry, legacy portal, or app description. The booking-date controls cannot be relabeled as release-date controls. For a named person, search with In Custody unchecked and open the booking. For a broader window, review a sufficiently broad set of bookings and retain only those with an actual Release Date inside the chosen time.

No official update cadence is promised. A same-day record may lag or later be corrected. Multiple bookings must be opened one by one. A booking that began before a 24-hour or 72-hour boundary can still end inside that window, so a narrow booking-start filter can omit it. The Gaston County 24-Hour Releases method explains this manual check without presenting it as an official feed.

Gaston Court and Release Records

Gaston cases now use the statewide Odyssey Portal. Smart Search and Register of Actions can show parties, events, dispositions, hearings, judgments, and financial entries. Judgment Search is an index route, so follow the case into Smart Search for the fuller chronology. The court trail can explain dismissal, sentence, bond change, or another authority for release.

The court event is not the physical-exit timestamp. Pair it with the Sheriff's Release Date. Public terminals and paper files are available through the Gaston Clerk of Superior Court at 325 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Suite 1004, Gastonia. The main number is 704-852-3100, and published hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Note: A court event explains legal authority, but the Sheriff's Release Date confirms when Gaston jail processing actually ended.

Gaston County Release Notifications

North Carolina's custody notification service is NC SAVAN, also called VINElink. It is available through VINELink, its mobile app, or 1-877-627-2826. Search the specific person, compare the agency, location, status, and identifier, then register for an offered custody-change event. Phone registration uses a four-digit PIN. State policy says unacknowledged calls may repeat at intervals for up to 24 hours.

A VINE released or out-of-custody label is a supplied status event, not a certified Gaston release summary. Confirm it in the county booking, NCDAC record, or court and custodian files. A transfer from Gaston jail to NCDAC can create another offender ID, so the state advises registering under each relevant identifier. The North Carolina Sex Offender Registry is separate and covers only people legally required to register; it is not a general list of Gaston County released inmates.

Gaston Release Supervision Records

NCDAC OPI places inmate and probation, parole, or post-release status on the same person record. That makes it possible to distinguish release from prison confinement from full discharge. Structured Sentencing ended ordinary parole for most offenses committed on or after October 1, 1994, subject to exceptions. Modern felony releases often move into mandatory post-release supervision.

Gaston County is served by Community Supervision Judicial District 27 at 2575 Pembroke Road, Gastonia, 704-833-1294. The district also serves Cleveland and Lincoln counties. The fuller verification workflow appears under Post-Release Supervision.

Note: Active community supervision can follow prison release, so release from confinement does not always mean full discharge from the sentence.

Gaston County Release Reentry Contact

NCDAC lists a Gaston Local Reentry Council in its statewide reentry directory. The council is a navigation and coordination contact after release, not a promise of a particular service or benefit. NCDAC warns that funding changes can affect local council coverage, so the live directory should be checked and the listed contact called before relying on availability.

This channel serves a different role from supervision. The District 27 office verifies state community supervision. The local reentry council may help a released person navigate reentry contacts. Neither establishes the actual Gaston County release date, which still comes from the county booking or NCDAC record.

Getting Home After Gaston Release

Gastonia ended fixed-route bus service on July 1, 2024. GoGastonia on-demand vans replaced it. A ride can be requested through the service app or at 704-753-7439, while transit questions use 704-866-6855. The City does not promise a jail-door pickup.

A released person or family should confirm current service and an allowed, safe nearby pickup point before travel. The Sheriff has not published a release door, fixed daily release time, family waiting place, or transportation stop. Calling the jail for current site logistics avoids treating the transit program as guaranteed jail pickup.

Note: GoGastonia does not promise jail-door pickup, so confirm both current service and a safe, permitted pickup point before travel.

Federal Gaston Inmate Releases

Gaston County's federal layer is local and specific. The Main Jail contracts for USMS federal pretrial detention. The Annex participates in BOP sentenced federal work release. A person can therefore leave either county facility without leaving federal custody. Pair the local booking Release Date with the federal case docket, a focused USMS records request, or the BOP Inmate Locator after federal prison commitment.

BOP results can show a past or projected Release Date and location. “RELEASED” refers to BOP custody and does not rule out federal supervised release or another system. USMS has no equivalent public released-person locator. A federal pretrial departure from Gaston might be a transfer, court release, or later BOP commitment.

Gaston Release Facility Differences

The Sheriff's detention overview states that the Annex opened May 3, 1996, before the Main Jail opened on November 1, 1999. Their populations differ. Main primarily holds male state pretrial detainees and county-sentenced inmates, along with contracted federal pretrial detainees. Annex serves male and female pretrial or convicted populations, weekend sentences, and court-ordered work release.

Repeated weekend processing at the Annex can create several custody intervals. One movement should not be read as final sentence completion without the booking history and court order. Gaston Correctional Center is different again: it is an NCDAC minimum-custody prison, and the county portal cannot confirm release from it.

Gaston Release and ICE Detainers

An ICE detainer asks a local agency for notice of impending release and requests a hold of up to 48 additional hours so ICE can assume custody. Departure from Gaston custody into immigration custody is a county release or transfer, not community release. No dedicated ICE detention center in Gaston County was identified in the official sources reviewed.

ICE Online Detainee Locator checks current immigration custody. It is not a historical release archive. Search by the exact nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact biographical details. A no-result can reflect transfer, removal, release, another custodian, or data differences. It cannot settle the release question alone.

Gaston Work Release Fees

The Annex publishes program-specific charges. State work-release participants pay from $18 to $36 per day based on annual income until completion. Federal work-release subsistence is 25 percent of gross wages per paycheck. These amounts do not apply to every detainee, every booking, or every Gaston County release.

They also do not establish whether custody ended. Use the booking history and actual Release Date for the local event, then BOP Locator for the federal status when applicable. No universal jail release fee was found, and no fixed Sheriff copy fee should be inferred from these work-release charges.

Note: Annex work-release charges are program-specific and must not be treated as a general Gaston booking, records, or release fee.

North Carolina Prison Discharge Funds

North Carolina G.S. 148-13(a) provides a modest cash award of at least $45 when a state prisoner who has been incarcerated for at least two years is discharged or paroled. This state-prison rule is not a promise of gate money from Gaston County Jail. It applies through the state corrections system and only under the stated conditions.

The distinction tracks custody. A person released from Gaston Correctional Center may fall within the state provision. A person leaving the Main Jail after a local booking should not be told the same award applies. Confirm any state discharge processing with NCDAC.

Gaston County Release Facilities

Gaston County Jail – Main records ordinary local releases in the county inquiry, while its federal pretrial population requires a federal follow-up. Gaston County Jail Annex uses the same local booking path, but weekend and work-release movements need booking and court context. Gaston Correctional Center is an NCDAC state prison; state OPI supplies its discharge and supervision record.

These are the three detention facilities identified for the Gaston County release workflow. No standalone federal prison or dedicated ICE detention center in Gaston County was found. The facility name on the record determines which agency should confirm the next custody status.

Note: Match the facility operator first because Gaston county, NCDAC, and federal records document different custody events.
